Welcoming a new child into your family is an exciting journey filled with joy, growth, and new experiences. It can also come with questions, challenges, and the need for extra support, especially when balancing the demand of military life. The NPSP is here to provide personalized guidance, resources, and encouragement to help you navigate parenthood with confidence.

What is the New Parent Support Program? 

The NPSP is a free, voluntary program designed to help military families adjust to the challenges of parenthood. Whether you’re pregnant, adopting, fostering, or caring for a child under the age of three, NPSP provides education, resources, and personalized support to help your family thrive.  

Our team of registered nurses and home visitation professionals are here to offer guidance on infant care, child development, parenting skills, and more, empowering you to feel confident in your role as a parent.  

Who is Eligible? 

  • Expectant parents (including those adopting or fostering) 
  • Parents and caregivers with children under age 3 
  • Active duty service members, their spouses, and family members 
  • DOD ID card holders (Retirees may be eligible for specific support services; please inquire) 

How NPSP Helps You

Parenthood can be joyful, but also overwhelming, especially when balancing military life. NPSP offers support to help you manage: 

  • Preparing for birth and parenting 
  • Navigating deployments while raising children 
  • Caring for multiple children 
  • Balancing work, family, and self-care 
  • Finding local resources and building a support network

Home Visits 

Get Personalized support in the comfort of your own home. Our professionals can assist with: 

  • Infant care and feeding (including breastfeeding support) 
  • Sleep routine and safe sleep environments 
  • Child development and behavior management 
  • Sibling dynamics and family transitions 

Playgroups 

Opportunity to promote social and motor skills for children while providing parents an opportunity to connect, share experiences, and build community support.  

Referrals for Resources 

Our team helps connect you with: 

  • Military health system services 
  • Installation and local community programs 
  • Specialized resources tailored to your family’s unique needs

  • Military OneSource: Offers free, confidential consultations for expectant parents and parents of children up to age 5.  
  • THRIVE Program: a DOD-supported online resource promoting positive parenting and health family practices.  
  • National Maternal Mental Health Hotline: Free, confidential support for women who are pregnant or recently postpartum.
