Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Treatment
What We Do
The ADAPT program at Altus AFB is dedicated to promote readiness, health, and wellness through prevention and treatment of substance abuse and misuse. Our goal is to provide non-punitive, confidential, and evidence-based care to those struggling with substance use concerns.

- Assessment and treatment for substance abuse, misuse, and gambling
- Education and prevention briefings
- Support for Air Force Responsible Drinking Programs
Who we Serve
- Active duty service members
- General Service civilian employees (Eligible for an initial substance abuse evaluation and referral services through the Employee Assistance Program, ADAPT, or an equivalent program under AFMAN 44-198.)
Seeking Services
Self-Referral
Active duty service members may seek treatment voluntarily without their command being notified. To self-refer, call the ADAPT clinic at 580-481-5376 or send a secure message via the MHS GENESIS Patient Portal.
Medical Referral
If you’ve been referred by a medical provider, you’ll receive an evaluation and recommendations for treatment. Your provider may submit a referral through the MHS GENESIS Patient Portal or instruct you to contact ADAPT clinic directly.
Commander’s Referral
Commanders can refer service members for an evaluation if there is concern about alcohol or drug misuse affecting duty performance, safety, or well-being.
Getting Care
Emergency Substance Use Disorder Care
A substance use emergency occurs when an individual is:
If you or someone else is experiencing a substance use emergency:
- Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
- You do not need prior authorization to receive emergency care.
- Active-duty service members who are admitted should inform their leadership, and their leadership should contact the Command Post as soon as possible.
- All other beneficiaries should contact TriWest at 888-874-9378 within 24 hours or the next business day.
- Hospital admissions must be reported withing 72 hours.
Non-Emergency Substance Use Disorder Care
For Active Duty Service Members
- Call the ADAPT clinic at 580-481-5376 to schedule an appointment
- Walk ins are accepted 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for non-urgent concerns.
- You may also send a secure message via the MHS GENESIS Patient Portal to request an appointment.
For Non-Active Duty TRICARE Beneficiaries (Prime Plus, TRICARE for Life)
- No referral or prior authorization is required for outpatient SUD care, including therapy and counseling.
- If you choose a provider outside the TRICARE network, you may pay higher costs.
- For inpatient or institutional care outside of a military treatment facility, a referral is required.
