If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, call 911 immediately.
Altus Air Force Base doesn’t offer urgent or emergency care services. However, there are options available to you when you need medical attention outside of routine appointments.
Urgent Care
Urgent care is for sudden illnesses or injuries that aren’t life-threatening, but require prompt medical attention to prevent complications, such as infections. Examples include:
- Sprains and minor fractures
- Flu, colds, and respiratory infections
- Earaches, sore throats, and sinus infections
- Mild asthma attacks
- Minor burns, cuts, or rashes

Emergency Care
Emergency care is for serious, life-threatening medical conditions that require immediate treatment. These include:
- Severe bleeding that won’t stop
- Vomiting or coughing up blood
- Chest pain or difficulty breathing
- Sudden numbness, paralysis, or slurred speech
- Seizures that won’t stop
- Extensive burns
- Severe allergic reactions (insect stings, anaphylaxis)
- Eye injuries from chemicals or trauma
- Altered consciousness or loss of awareness
- High fever (103° F or Higher) with nausea, vomiting, or dizziness
- Mental health emergencies, including suicidal or homicidal thoughts
If you experience any of these, call 911 immediately or go to the nearest emergency room. The closest hospital to Altus AFB is:

No prior authorization is required for emergency care.
What to Do After Civilian Urgent or Emergency Care
If you receive care from a civilian urgent care clinic or emergency room, follow these steps:
- Inform your Primary Care Manager
- Send a secure message to your provider via the MHS GENESIS Patient Portal
- Schedule a follow-up appointment with your PCM to discuss any necessary next steps to your care
